What Are Clean Agent Fire Suppression Systems?

Fire Suppression SystemsFires can cause severe damage to any property and pose a threat to human lives. Fire suppression systems can be installed to combat fires before they get out of hand. The clean agent fire suppression system stands out due to its effectiveness among the different types of suppression systems. Keep reading to learn more about these systems and how they can assist your property.

What Is a Clean Agent?

clean agent is any fire-extinguishing chemical that does not leave a residue after release. It does not conduct electricity, explode, or be gaseous. It is also generally more environmentally friendly than other products. Clean agents suppress fire by removing one of the elements necessary for flames to ignite. Heat, oxygen, and fuel are needed, and clean agents remove heat or oxygen from the equation.

Types of Clean Agents

There are three distinct categories of clean agents that are used in fire protection systems:

FM 200 is an invisible gas that extinguishes flames by absorbing heat. It is also non-toxic. For electronic equipment and other precious inventory, FM 200 is an excellent material for zapping fires without further damaging your business property.

Novec 1230 is very similar to FM 200. It is also non-toxic, colorless, and extinguishes through heat absorption, preserving high-value equipment such as electronics. Its advantage over FM 200 is that it is more environmentally friendly and safer for people to breathe in.

Inert clean agents, noble gases are non-reactive chemical elements that remain unchanged under varying chemical conditions. They are widely used for fire suppression, as they can remove oxygen from the atmosphere, thereby suffocating flames.
